Sequel to Blood 2?

Lock Up after Launcher

First off, when on the B2 Launcher, enter Display and change the renderer from Hardware to Software, then run B2 again and see if it runs.

If it does, there's a driver problem with either DX or with your video card(s). I'd check the webpage of the maker of your card and check on new drivers, then reinstall DX. That should help!

If it doesn't run, then there's a bigger problem somewhere within your PC. Try right clicking on "My Computer", go to "Properties", click on the "Performance" tab and then on "Graphics". Bring down the "Hardware Acceleration" slider a couple of notches and see if that helps.

Also, check out the Advanced Options and make sure nothing is checkmarked, then checkmark only Restore Factory Defaults, then click OK and try to run Blood 2 again!

Try installing the new 3DFX reference drivers from 3DFX and see if that helps! 3Dfx Drivers

Try downloading the full version of DirectX, even if you already have it installed. Click here to download DirectX!

Try downloading and installing the new Blood 2.0 patch from the Blood 2 Patch Page .

Make sure your motherboard has the latest BIOS update possible. Some older motherboards are having compatibility issues with the AGP slot and are not able to give the V3 enough power it needs to run correctly. I'd make sure your motherboard can handle the V3 100%.

MP Errors/Solutions

Freezes on 'Loading...' screen ('Loading' at bottom of screen)
-You don't have the same .rez mod that the server is using. Get the most recent version of the modification and add it using the Blood 2 'customize' button on the launcher.

ERROR - Unable to Setup the Network Game
-The server could be down. (ping listed at 9999 in Gamespy) Choose a different server and see if that helps.

-Try adding this to the command line under Advanced Options:
+IPDevice 1

If that doesn't work, try:
+IPDevice 2

-If you're using Gamespy, I'd also suggest updating the server list (right click on the button marked "GameSpy Network" and then choose "Update") and see if that resolves the problem.

-Try downloading and installing DUN 1.3 first, then try getting the 2.0 version of Winsock from Microsoft and see if that helps!

"Connection Rejected" error window
The Connection Rejected message either means:

-The Server is full. Wait until someone leaves the server and try joining the game again.

-The Client (you) lacks a Custom map currently running on the server. You'll need to get the Custom Level that is running and join the game again.

ERROR - Unable to join because the game server is a different version or a different game
-You tried to join the Blood 2 demo server with the retail version of the game. Check Gamespy's command line to insure that the version (retail or demo) of the game you are launching is similar to that of the server.

ERROR - Disconnected from server
The Disconnect from Server message either means:

-The Client lacks a Custom map that the server is loading/playing. You'll need to get the Custom map and load it into the Blood 2 directory before joining that server.

-The Server went offline. Choose a different server and try joining a new game.

Game crashes on map switch
The Client's loaded .rez file doesn't match the server's. Verify that you've only got the mod you want to use and set it to load in the Blood 2 customize window.

The black 'Shogo' window shows up then closes.
The Client (you) is using the UAMC1 mod to join a server. Remove the mod from the 'Customize' menu on the launcher and try and reconnect again.

Logitech Mouse Wheel

There is a problem with Logitech's drivers that will not allow the mouse wheel to function. Logitech knows about the problem and is working to create a fix. In the mean time, you'll need to uninstall the Logitech software and use the Microsoft mouse drivers in order to use the wheel.

No keyboard bindings

Enter the Advanced Options on the Blood 2 Launcher and checkmark only the Restore Factory Defaults box, then click OK and launch the game. When on the main menu, enter Options, Controls and re-map the keys where you want them and run the game; everything should run OK! Also, make sure you re-enter that Advanced Options and uncheck the Restore Factory Defaults box so that you don't reset the game every time you run it.

Lag/Respawn Fix

Try this

1) Go into your Blood 2 directory.
2) Open the AUTOEXEC.CFG file with NOTEPAD.
3) Change the number in the command "UpdateRate" "" to "3" and save the file.
4) Play some MP Blood and see how it goes.

Muffled 3D Sounds

If you have the SoundBlaster Live! card and are experiencing muffled 3D sound with the 2.0 version of Blood 2, go to the Creative Labs web site and download the latest fix for the card.

CSHELL.DLL error

Enter the Blood 2 directory and delete the Blood2.REZ file, then run the game again... it'll run off the CD. If Blood 2 runs fine after that, run the Setup program again and only install the Blood2 information, not the movies or DirectX, then run the game again.

C++ Error

If you are receiving an error message that says, "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library, runtime library error, abnormal program termination, (directory)", you have a bad CD. Something on the CD disc is corrupted or damaged. Have you tried installing the game on another computer? If so and you still get the error, I'd recommend that you return the game to the store where you bought it and swap it for a new Blood 2 game.

If you don't get the error on the second computer, there would have to be something weird with your computer setup. Make sure that you have DirectX6 and all the latest drivers installed for your computer and then re-install the game again and try again.

Out of memory/Client error

Go to the CLIENT.EXE on your CD and start it using the line below.
client.exe -rez d:\data\blood2.rez
(where d: is the CD-ROM drive letter)

If this works, it means that your CLIENT.EXE file in your Blood 2 directory is bad and needs to be replaced by the one on the CD.

Mouse Too Sensitive

Open your AUTOEXEC.CFG file in the Blood 2 directory and then change the line:

"MouseSensitivity" "1.000000"

Try playing around with the number until you find a range that is comfortable for you.

NT4.0 questions

Blood 2 will not run correctly on Windows NT. Windows NT only supports up to Direct X3 (DirectX 5 with SP4) and Blood 2 needs Direct X6 to run properly. The best thing to do is play Blood 2 under Win95 or Win98 if at all possible, as Blood 2 was not designed to run in NT.

Game Dark

You need to tweak your GAMMA settings. To change the Gamma for Blood 2, you'll need to right-click on your desktop, choose PROPERTIES, and then adjust the GAMMA for your particular video card.

Also, you can activate the console by pressing the tilde "~" key, and type:

Gamma 100 (enter)

One more thing to try is to open your AUTOEXEC.CFG file in the Blood 2 directory and look for a command that says:

"Gamma" "1.000000"

Try changing the number from 1.0 to 5.0+ until you find an acceptable gamma setting. Remember, the higher the number you use, the brighter the game will become.

Try opening up the console and type: SATURATE 1. This should brighten up the game a bit!

Enable Retail Code

Here is a level command: "+Enableretaillevels 1".

You want to enter this code in the Command Line that's under Advanced Options on the Blood2 Launcher. After you put that line in, checkmark the "Always Specify These Command Line Parameters" and click OK. You can then find all the levels under Single Player, Custom.

Flickering Menu Screens

If you're experiencing flickering menu screens, enter the Advanced Options and checkmark the Enable Triple Buffering box, click OK and then run Blood 2! That should clear up the problem!

Go game command

This command makes it so when you double click on the Blood2.EXE, it bypasses the Launcher and starts the game immediately:

Edit your shortcut icon to add "-gogame" on the command-line and that will make it immediately launch the game! You can also make a new shortcut if you want to keep the original one, just in case you ever want to bring up the launcher.

You can also do "-gomulti" and it will be the same as if you had clicked the "Multiplayer" button.

No sound

Try and delete the Sound.REZ file from the Blood2 folder, then explore the Blood 2 CD, enter the Game folder and copy the Sound.REZ file from there and paste it back to your Blood 2 folder on your PC. That should solve the "no sounds" problem.
